MOCI Announces the Addition of 48 New Home-Based Business License Activities

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has expanded the scope of home-based businesses by introducing 48 new activities under the home projects license, raising the total to 63 activities.

Some of the newly added activities include: nut roasting and packaging, tailoring and sewing men's clothing, repairing and maintaining leather goods like luggage and bags, electrical appliance maintenance, fixing document copiers, computer repairs, trading dates and related products, selling computers and accessories, designing and programming custom software, trading clothing for men, women, and children, selling shoes, renting travel supplies, translation services, trading men's accessories and perfumes, jewelry design, photography services, selling women's cosmetics and beauty products, and interior decoration design. These are just a few examples of the new home-based business opportunities now available.

To obtain a home license, the ministry has outlined a straightforward process. Applicants need to submit a service application form, along with ID cards of both the property owner and the license holder, ensuring the address on the application matches the license holder's registered address. Additionally, a "My Address" sign must be displayed on the home.

The ministry has also made it easier to apply for the license online through the Single Window portal. If the application is submitted electronically, there's no need to fill out a separate license services application form. The online process involves visiting the E-services section on the ministry's website (www.moci.gov.qa), accessing the Single Window services, logging in via the national authentication system, and following the steps to apply for a home license. Applicants will also need to scan an electronic code for registration.

This new licensing initiative is designed to formalize and support home-based commercial activities, providing more opportunities for entrepreneurs and small business owners. The ministry's announcement encourages small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to innovate, develop their capabilities, and attract investment. By nurturing these home-based projects, the ministry aims to promote business growth, which could eventually lead to the establishment of commercial outlets, thereby contributing to the nation's economic development, sustainability, and diversification.
